This conference continues the successful series started in Odessa in May 2011 which continued to Tbilisi (2012) and Istanbul (2013) initiated by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs with the support of the international department of the City of Vienna and organised by the Go-Governance Institute. These events bring together academics, experts, diplomats, civil society representatives from different countries of the EU and the wider Black Sea Region to look at the state of play on democratic culture and governance, progress made and challenges. Each year there is a special theme and also press conference to present a book dedicated to topics concerned with the good governance series which stem from the discussions.

The conference will explore the role of good governance in consolidating reforms and building a sustainable democracy and analyses the contribution of different policies eg regional, cultural, people-to-people, environmental issues, media, citizen participation, European integration, parliamentary democracy, soft diplomacy etc. We aim to look not just at examples of so-called bad governance but also to focus on progress made and real good governance as well as mechanisms for faster implementation. The exchange of know-how and best practices between experts and academics gives the conference series an important scientific dimension.
